SEDATION, Fear the dentist no longer…

At Beautiful Smiles we understand when patients tell us that they are afraid. It does not matter what they fear about the dentist, because it is real and often disabling. We are able to conquer this fear through SEDATION dentistry. We have provided sedation to many people throughout the Central New York area from Syracuse, Watertown, Geneva, Ithaca and Cortland.

We respect how difficult it is for a frightened patient to make the first phone call to our office. (Please tell the receptionist immediately that you are a sedation patient) The first visit is an easy non-threatening exam to diagnose what problems exist. Once we know the treatment needed, we will explain (or not explain) what treatment is needed. We understand that you may not want to know what is involved, and that is ok, you have total control over your appointment! Next, you will have a consult appointment with our nurse practioner. A medical work up is done to ensure there are no contraindications for sedation. Sometimes, we may need a Physician’s approval before we can move forward with the sedation. This is all done for the safety of our patients.

The day of sedation, you are given some pills, no shots or IV’s are needed. The procedure does not move forward until you, the patient, say you are ready. Again, we give you complete control over your appointment. The greatest thing about sedation, is that you will not remember much of the appointment. For someone who fears dentist and what we do, what a great way to go…
